Open Streets Nashville, Buchanan Street - North Nashville, (2019)
If you Google North Nashville, the top ten articles are either about crime or real estate. But our neighborhood is more than that. We’re home to film makers, restaurateurs, history makers, history keepers, bakers, artists, writers, organizers, dancers and intellectuals.
The goal of Open Streets was to celebrate and showcase our art, culture and history and shift the negative narrative surrounding North Nashville. The event, previously held in South Nashville, closed streets to cars and opened them to people.
Open Streets is a fiscally sponsored project of the Arts & Business Council of Greater Nashville, a nonprofit organization, which made tax-deductible donations possible. Through a collaboration with Walk Bike Nashville,The Housing Fund, Jeff McGruder (Pinnacle Financial Partners), the Frist Foundation, local businesses, developers, contractors and non-profits we raised $35,000 to pay LOCAL artists to perform.
